Google unveiled the Eddystone™ protocol on July 14th and rolled out a new suite of features that would help developers build apps using this technology. Mobiquity Networks is excited to announce that its beacon network hardware is already Eddystone™ compatible and will embrace the benefits and capabilities offered by the Eddystone™ protocol throughout its platform. Mobiquity Networks is extremely enthusiastic about the release of Eddystone™ as it represents a major endorsement for the future of proximity-based engagement and emphasizes the tremendous value and staying power of beacon technology.
The announcement compared electronic beacons to lighthouses because both “provide precise location and contextual cues within apps to help you navigate the world.” Google saw the huge opportunities that existed with beacon technology — from navigation to alerts to marketing — and built Eddystone to push the technology forward.
Eddystone™ supports multiple frame types for different use cases and supports versioning to make introducing new functionality easier. It is cross-platform and supports any platform with BLE beacons. For network developers like Mobiquity Networks, Eddystone™ provides APIs for better semantic context and precise location to deliver better context in apps, allows beacon hardware to be utilized for multiple platforms, and makes it easier to secure and manage their beacon fleet.
Embracing the Eddystone™ protocol will add a new set of tools to Mobiquity Networks’ offering that will allow our clients to reach customers based on their location within the nationwide network. This provides more opportunities for engagement at the moment of truth – when consumers are about to make their purchase decisions. And while we already engage with iOS and Android operating systems, Eddystone™ will help to ensure a consistent experience for both Android and iOS users, which will make it easier to engage with an even larger mobile audience.
